Storybrook Park - Bellingham Washington
PLA developed construction drawings and provided bid support and construction administration for a new park development in Bellingham’s Birchwood neighborhood, which opened in 2026. The site consists of a complex of wetlands, upland, steep slopes, and three street frontages, the project transforms a challenging site into a welcoming community destination. The park features a vibrant central hub with a nature-inspired playground, gathering plaza, and flexible seating areas. An integrated trail system includes a new ADA-accessible loop and seamless connections to all three surrounding streets, including an ADA route from Cherrywood Street through the heart of the park.
Street improvements enhance adjacent frontages with sidewalks, a bike lane, and extended a key roadway segment south of the park, linking to previously completed pedestrian improvments. Targeted wetland buffer mitigation enhances wetland health through habitat improvements and noxious weed removal, strengthening the site’s ecological function while supporting long-term stewardship.
