Spring Street Pocket Park
*Association of Washington Cities 2018 Municipal Excellence Award*
The Town of Friday Harbor identified several important locations for civic development in their downtown core. One location identified as a crossroads of pedestrian interest and good pocket park location was the intersection of Spring Street and the Farmer’s Market Breezeway. This location also needed to be addressed for pedestrian safety. Pacific Landscape Architecture designed a brand new pocket park for residents and visitors. The park includes custom wood and metal seating, a sculptural steel panel, boulder art seating by Tom Small, planting, and paving that reinforces the urban design connections being made at the site. The resulting pocket park is already a popular and well-used feature in the town.
