Bay Cliff Garden

This site and house provide an expansive and open experience to the water on two sides, making it feel very private even in the middle of the neighborhood. Shallow soils, harsh winds, and steep slopes add to the feel of a wild cliff garden. The materials and plant choices both highlight and blend in with the natural feel of the native trees and exposed sandstone outcroppings. Spring and summer blooms are melded in with a native palette and muted earth tones. The backyard features a small gravel terrace with firepit and rockery planting pockets created out of on-site sandstone boulders. Sedum tiles are used throughout in areas of shallow soils to add color and tone where other plants would not survive.
